Perhaps a history lesson is in order to understand what is behind this blog’s title. Maybe there's a need for context here that would be helpful to you as a reader, contact or casual observer.
In the case of Victory & Reseda, it is already set in stone back in 2011 that it will be the portal for my automotive writing and my coverage of all things sustainable transportation. Yet, there was another internal debate that I had to settle about the new brand for this website.
The mythology of Reseda is not just rooted in the fact that I grew up there and spent most of my life in this San Fernando Valley suburb. It is grounded in reality in more than a few ways. Reseda used to house several auto dealers: Dodge, Chrysler-Plymouth, Honda, Volkswagen, American Motors, Jeep, Renault, Ford, Chevrolet and Buick. Further up Reseda Boulevard was a Cadillac one. It was through these dealers that I learned about the industry I have been covering professionally over the past ten years.
Getting to these milestones involved a lot of success, balanced out by frustrations. Every inch I took, I had to take a step back to understand how to succeed in this competitive arena.
History will examine this year closely. Yet, it would history that repeated itself. The world dealt with a deadly pandemic similar to this one over a century ago. The fight for equity has its roots centuries ago, thanks to global greed and arrogance. There have been many elections gone contested with personalities that were divergent to spark a deeper division among its populace.
In the meantime, the automotive retail business has been working overtime to reinvent itself. They are hungry for inventory, while production is ramping up under safer conditions along the assembly lines. Used cars are becoming scarce, with some auction facilities laying off personnel. However, the rental car companies are trying to reduce excess fleet in the pall of financial issues due to a reduction in travel.
