Two things have happened since my first review of the CX-30. One, Mazda announced that North American customers will no longer get the smaller CX-3 for the 2022 model year. That now makes the CX-30 the smallest SUV in the lineup. The other bit of news is the addition of the powerful Skyactiv 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to the CX-30 lineup.
I would say that their latest design language is the draw for the brand, but there’s more to that. It is all about execution – an overused word that describes how well they have successfully launched each new vehicle onto the marketplace.
Several things came up deep in my mind. One, how much of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds will the show take up? What areas would the show take advantage of for displays? How much can the auto show replicate the feel of the Minneapolis Convention Center, even when it is outdoors?
Let’s face it, every new vehicle that goes through its debut phase is important to the bottom line and reputation of their respective brand and manufacturer. By introducing a new model that will be positioned for a specific segment, they are betting everything on it.
This time around, Hyundai infused a lot of design elements from its larger three-row cousin, the Palisade, into the Santa Fe. The result is something different, but actually the same.
